For the past three years since I’ve “retired”, I’ve been living and dressing for what I call “The Sneaker Life”. But a few months ago, I began volunteering in the office of a local Volunteers in Medicine clinic on Tuesday mornings. It’s been fun to get back into some semblance of “work wear”. Today I’m sharing a few of the outfits I’ve worn there recently!
One of my rare forays into print mixing – checked Liz Claiborne cropped pants with a thrifted Christopher & Bank floral jacket. Even my shoes in this outfit were thrifted.
This outfit was entirely thrifted. I love the jacket and the lace tee, but am not crazy about the fit of the pants here.
I like the red pants a little better when covered more, but I think this long tunic dress would look better with a legging or slimmer pant. So I think the red pants are destined for the donate pile!
I thrifted this Forever 21 dress to wear as a tunic. Here, over leggings with boots —
and here over print ankle pants.
When looking through photos for this post, I realized I wore a lot of black and white. But you can’t really go wrong with this classic combo. This Ruby Rd. faux leather jacket is several years old and is one of those pieces that goes with everything!
More black and white in a thrifted handmade striped sweater.
I’ve really been enjoying getting a bit dressed up once a week!

“Thrifting” is a marvelous way to try new looks I’ve found. Hadn’t worn ankle booties before & found two pair for a song! Now I’m wearing them will different outfits this Fall/Winter.
One thing I’ve found since retiring, going out & about is vital. Even just to the market I put a wee bit more attention to grooming. It’s too easy to slide into “unkempt hermit” mode 🤭. Slouching around in bathrobe and slippers… is not conducive to self-care.
Refreshing “meeting” another lady who enjoys “treasure hunting”!

Like your ankle booties, I’ve worn so many things I’d have never tried before because I didn’t want to put the money out for things I wasn’t certain of. For instance, sleeveless vests and leggings/jeggings.
And I completely agree about getting up and about in retirement. I make sure to get completely dressed down to my shoes with hair and makeup done as soon as I get up in the morning. I’m more likely to leave the house and so much more productive — and feel so much more like a human being!
So nice to meet you too, Beverly!

I really like your pattern mix, and also the outfit with the faux leather jacket. I haven’t been thrifting for several months, but your post makes me want to…a fun January activity to look forward to. Happy Holidays to you!

Love your outfits – and the thrifting idea – just wish I had better resources. I was recently in St. Louis and #1 son took me to a huge thrift store. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

Thanks, Iris! We’re really fortunate in our thrifts here. Even in the summer when we stay in a small Jersey shore town, there are quite a few thrift stores.
